The second week of the NFL season has arrived, which means it’s time to place some props. Last week, we were 100% so let’s keep it rolling in week two!
The Houston Texans surprised a lot of people when they dominated the Jaguars, who were favored last Sunday. A big reason for the team’s success was Tyrod Taylor, who many bettors forgot was a reputable option at quarterback in Houston.
Is he Deshaun Watson? No, but this does not mean that he can’t be successful with the franchise. If Watson did not get his lung punctured by a Chargers trainer last season, the Justin Herbert era might be nonexistent in Los Angeles.
Taylor ran for 40 yards last weekend on four carries, and he will face a Browns defense that ranks 24th in Defensive Rusher Rating. Granted, they did play the Chiefs in week one, so they will likely improve in this metric.
Yet, Taylor’s rushing total is still a great prop because he will be scrambling a lot, and it’s apparent he can make plays with his legs.
The likelihood of Mac Jones throwing an interception in Josh McDaniel’s offense is slim to none. Even with Tom Brady, the Patriots ran the dink and dunk offense. This scheme limits their passing turnovers, and it keeps the clock moving.
Since entering the NFL, Jones has not thrown an interception in his three preseason and one regular-season appearance. He was praised out of Alabama for his accuracy, so this prop is betting on Jones’ best quality.
The New York Jets are coming off a game where they faced Sam Darnold, who looked strong against their secondary. Darnold threw 35 passes for 279 yards and no interceptions.
After this performance, the Jets landed in 20th in defensive passer rating. Darnold has NFL experience, but Jones is more accurate than the Panther. The combination of a limited playbook and efficient passer will help this prop hit.
If Christian McCaffrey does not carry the ball 18 times in this game, the Panthers will not win. Sam Darnold was efficient in week one, and he has weapons, but McCaffrey is the team.
Last week, McCaffrey carried the ball 21 times for 98 yards. The Saints rank first in the defensive hog index, but the Panthers are devoted to pounding the rock with McCaffrey because that is their formula to win games.
In 2019, when McCaffrey was healthy for the entire season, he went over this total nine times in 16 games. The Saints are strong up front, but Carolina needs to pound the rock to win on Sunday.
The Buccaneers are going to air out the ball on Sunday against Atlanta, and Tom Brady loves to get multiple receivers involved. In the opener, Brady hit Brown five times for 121 yards and one touchdown.
It’s apparent that an entire year with the offense has benefited Brady drastically. The Falcons ranked sixth in defensive passer rating after being torn apart by Jalen Hurts and the Eagles.
If Philadelphia can tear up Atlanta, the defending Super Bowl champions will have an offensive cakewalk. Brown seemed to be one of Brady’s favorite targets in week one, so it would not be surprising to see him find the endzone for the second consecutive week.
Best of luck with your week two bets!
